Classic driving experience specialist Great EscapeCars has moved into the workshop business with its new venture, Classic Fixers. Based at the firm’s premises in Redditch, the new company gives classic car owners access to the same experience and resources that maintain the company’s 20-car hire fleet.
Classic Fixers is a new business but not a new facility. It grows out of Great Escape Cars’ existing workshop facility, which was set up in 2010 after the company grew disillusioned with external specialists. The workshop, which operates from a 4,500 sq ft commercial unit and has two full time mechanics, has been working on external customer cars since then. Increased demand is behind the creation of this new separate business and identity.
Graham Eason, who runs Great Escape Cars, says that Classic Fixers has been created to solve a problem that he is only too familiar with. Before creating its own workshop, his business struggled with sluggish customer service from specialists. His hire business depends on clear pricing quotes, right-first-time repairs and reliable turnaround to avoid letting hirers down.
Owners can tap into Classic Fixers’ experience maintaining a wide range of high mileage classic hire cars. This daily focus on keeping old cars reliable provides real insight into the problem and is unique to the business because no other classic car hire specialist has a commercial workshop.
Classic Fixers offers owners fixed pricing based on full assessments before work begins and a timescale for the work. Regular updates are also provided during the project. The customer service approach extends to a nationwide collection and delivery service to help owners who cannot get their cars to Redditch.
“Running a large fleet of classic hire vehicles is a very exaggerated version of owning a classic car. The cars have to be reliable and they have to be available. I was prepared to pay a premium to suppliers to deliver that, but nobody could or would. They didn’t seem to have the insight that running high mileage classic cars provides.
“Our workshop was set up to deliver that.
“I’m not a mechanic, but I have been on both sides of the workshop experience as supplier and customer. Classic Fixers is specifically designed to be honest, clear and reliable. We explain the work required, we price it clearly and we do it in a pre-agreed time.”
Classic Fixers has a new website at www.fixclassiccars.co.uk, which has plenty of case studies, projects, films and blog updates. Current projects for Classic Fixers include a MG Midget restoration, Jaguar E Type engine rebuild, Rover V8 engine rebuild and extensive welding work on a Mercedes 250S.
Great Escape Cars is the UK’s largest specialist classic experience company with a fleet of 20 classic cars available to hire by the hour, day or on its popular road trips. To find out more visit www.greatescapecars.co.uk or call 01527 893733.
